Although you might want to stay cosy this October, we have sourced some amazing exhibitions that launch this month to get you back out into the city and exploring what Manchester has to offer:
Valette Works On Paper – Contemporary Six
A very exciting Valette exhibition of works on paper is coming soon to the Contemporary Six gallery. They will be showing a ‘selection of beautiful sketches in the downstairs Gallery space by Valette created during the 1910s and 20s.’ Quite a few of the works in this exhibition have only been shown once before, at The Lowry back in 2011, they have never been shown in a commercial gallery! Alongside the exhibition downstairs, on the upstairs floor will be a ‘showcase of Northern Art and includes over 100 new works which track the lineage of art in the region.’
Valette Works on Paper | Contemporary Six | 29th October – 19th November
Out Of The Ordinary – Saul Hay Gallery
This month at Saul Hay Gallery you can visit a solo exhibition by artist Mandy Payne. Her work focuses on ‘twentieth-century inner-city social housing’ which are ‘rendered with great empathy for the urban communities who called them home…’ Mandy uses an array of surfaces for these pieces ‘including concrete, etched aluminium, discarded marble work surfaces, reclaimed floorboards and materials including spray paint and roofing sealant’ and more. If you’re in the mood for thought-provoking work this is the exhibition to see!
Out Of The Ordinary | Saul Hay Gallery | 1st October – 22nd October
Danielle Rhoda: City of Colour – HOME
Another must-see this month is Danielle Rhoda’s City of Colour, which ‘is a celebration of diversity in Manchester’ on at Home mcr. Danielle’s work ‘wanders between observations of daily situations and storytelling’. For this exhibitions she will be on the streets outside of Home, documenting real people and creating illustrations and ‘snapshots of their moments in the city’. To coincide with Black History Month, Danielle will be paying particular attention to the Black community of Manchester.
Danielle Rhoda: City of Colour | HOME | 1st October – 31st October
Nina Chua and Daniel Silver – Castlefield Art Gallery
The next exhibition at Castelfied Gallery is a ‘collaborative exhibition featuring works from Nina Chua and Daniel Silver, working with materials in an intuitive, exploratory way leaving expression to the material itself.’ This is part of an ongoing series of showing two-person exhibitions. ‘Chua invited Silver, an artist working at the forefront of contemporary figurative sculpture, to show a group of recent ceramic figures alongside a new set of her large-scale abstract drawings on paper.’ Sounds pretty good!
Nina Chua and Daniel Silver | Castlefield Art Gallery | 30 October 2022 — 29 January 2023
Catapult – Whitworth Locke
Last but not least is our Catapult exhibition! Whitworth Locke have hired us to arrange an exhibition on there behalf, to be shown through the month of October. Together we were drawn to the word ‘Catapult’ and want this exhibition to represent that. We wanted to provide the chance for Manchester-based artists to ‘catapult’ their careers, as those featured in the exhibition have the chance to have their own solo show at Whitworth Locke in the new year, completely free! All attendees of the exhibition will have the chance to vote for their favourite piece to give one lucky artist an amazing opportunity.
Catapult | Whitworth Locke | 1st October – 29th October
