Top Exhibitions and Events: October

October’s here, which means spooky season is approaching alongside those cold winds and well-known Manchester downpours. However, a few things have opened up and are showcasing some new art bits, so you’ve got somewhere to shelter from the elements, and you get some cool art to view whilst you’re at it.

50 Windows of Creativity

50 Windows of Creativity

This month, Manchester starts a cool new initiative that will host ’50 Windows of Creativity’. This is going to showcase the work of artists and makers displayed in a series of windows, venues, businesses and spaces across the entire city centre. The work and displays will feature multiple art forms from fine art and photography to ceramics, crafts, mosaics and murals and will be curated by well-known and emerging artists and collectives – all with a connection to Greater Manchester.

Artists and makers taking part include: Wellcome Trust prize winner Benji Reid, Manchester born mixed media landscape artist Sarah Connell and contemporary creative studio Lazerian. So, keep your eyes peeled, check all the windows and all the corners of Manchester and see what work you can spot!

Aid Workers: Ethics Under Fire

Aid Workers: Ethics Under Fire

‘Ethics Under Fire’ brings together powerful stories from conflict countries and allows you to explore these challenges from an insider perspective. This will be displayed through photographs and unique objects – recorded and sourced specially for this exhibition. On your visit you’ll encounter objects and dilemmas you simply wouldn’t face in the safe living space we have that others don’t. In addition, on display are aid workers’ personal belongings and objects that lend a perspective into the conditions they face. It’s not you ordinary art work, but it’s something to push information and ethical concerns and thoughts to the viewer.

Dates: 2nd October – 31 May 2021
