Top 5 Gallery Cafes in Manchester

Where to find the perfect Art Gallery Cafe!

After the success of our other post – Where to find Art and Alcohol – we got to thinking, where else can you see art outside of the gallery setting? For all those people that don’t drink the devil’s juice – rare you may be – or those that simple want a decent coffee whilst seeing some decent art, we have the perfect list for you!

All around Greater Manchester we have some amazing gallery cafes! Places to sit back, relax, grab a cuppa and a cake, and see some beautiful artwork whilst you sip away. Note that this lists does not include a cafe in a gallery – that is different. This is a list of stand alone cafes that are galleries too. So here is our top 5 gallery cafes!

GK Gallery and Tea Room – Salford

‘Art, Tea, Coffee & Cake!’

We love GK Gallery and Tea Room! It’s like one of those places you dream you could own. A perfect little cafe, with lovely brews and cakes, with a little craft store and gallery space too! They have art everywhere, and the focus a lot of their exhibitions on ex-students from MMU! Plus, their peanut butter and white chocolate blondie is a dream!

Tuesday – Friday 9am – 6pm. Saturday – Sunday 10am – 5pm –

Nexus Art Cafe – Northern Quarter

‘Nexus Art Cafe is a non profit organisation working towards building community and celebrating creativity in Manchester.’

Nexus Art Cafe always have something on, whether that is a new exhibition, film night, games night or life drawing lessons! It’s a great hub for creatives in Manchester. Sandwiches are under a fiver and cakes £2.50! Bargain! Plus, look how pretty the terrace is!

Monday – Saturday 11am – 7pm. Sunday 12pm – 6pm. –

Bean and Brush – Sale

‘Family art cafe, Sale, Manchester. Paint pots, good food, coffee, play area, licensed

This really is a place for the family. Not only is this a lovely place for lunch, it also have a studio space where you can paint a pot, or try your hand at decopatch, or create your own clay piece! They also have artwork up on the walls! Our own Suzanne Bethell (whose work you can find in our online shop) has had work displayed there!

Monday – Saturday. 8.30am – 7pm. Sundays 9am –

The Art of Tea – Didsbury

‘Didsbury’s finest independent cafe bar.’

Didsbury is none for it’s independent venues and it’s creative feel, and that is why The Art of Tea fits in perfectly in this suburb. This cafe bar offers ‘fresh, locally sourced produce, loose leaf tea, along with speciality beers, wines & spirits from around the world.’ Alongside that, the walls are covered in art, and there is an adjoining village bookshop!

Mon-Wed 9am-10pm. Thurs-Sat 9am-11pm. Sun 10am-10pm –

Oak Street Cafe – Northern Quarter

‘Cafe in Manchester’s Craft and Design Centre’

OK, so this one may or may not be controversy as it is not a stand-alone cafe, but I am adding it anyway! Manchester Craft Centre isn’t a gallery, plus this is my blog, so I will write what I want! I felt this needed to be included because it is just so damn cute! It’s a lovely little gallery and it is literally surrounded by art! Being in the heart of Manchester Craft and Design Centre means you can stroll through all the lovely studios of Manchester Creatives once you’ve finished your brew!

Mon-Sat 10am – 4.30pm

We also want to shout out to The Creameries, Leaf and All the Shapes – but these places were featured on our other article Where to find Art and Alcohol.

If you know of any other places that host exhibitions, let us know about them! Drop us a message in the comments of on our Contact page.
