Read on below to check out our featured favourites, but make sure you head over to the What’s On Calendar to see what else is happening in the amazing city of Manchester!

‘Bus2move ‘ at The Turnpike, Leigh

This exhibition showcases the work of Simeon Barclay. He presents a new body of work informed by research into dance combining costume, film and video, photography, lighting and sound. His interest focuses on the constructs of masculinity and the stereotypes we are subjected to surrounding the male body. His research has informed a series of new installations which continue the artists interest with the ‘complexity of subjectivity and notions surrounding identity’. Something interesting to go check out which questions a really relevant current topic!

Free Entry. Friday 14th February – Saturday 18th April

Clay in Residence

‘Clay in Residence’ at AIR Gallery, Altrincham

This is an event to keep coming back to! The exhibition is designed to alter and change over the 4 week course of this artists residency. ‘Clay: In Residence’ is an immersive installation of clay and objects set in a temporary, curated studio space and will include a mixture of raw, dry and fired material being displayed alongside sketches, tools and studio furniture. If you are loving Pottery Throw-Down as much we are then you’ll love this one too.

Free Entry. Wednesday 29th January – Wednesday 22nd February.

‘Jerwood Makers Open’ at Manchester Art Gallery, City centre

Loving the sound of this group exhibition. Artists Mark Corfield-Moore, Forest + Found (Max Bainbridge and Abigail Booth), Lucie Gledhill, Bethan Lloyd Worthington and Tana West make up the ‘Jerwood Makers Open’. This open ‘recognises and promotes the significance of making and materials within contemporary visual arts.’ Bringing you design elements, sculptures, installations and more, it looks to be a good’n.

Free Entry. Saturday 1st February – Sunday 4th October.

The Scholar Stones Project

‘The Scholar Stones Project’ at Holden Gallery, City centre

When I see something this colourful, with so many shapes, I’m happy! This image alone drew me into wanting to know more about this exhibition. ‘The Scholar Stones Project’ by artist Yelena Popova is the new exhibition at The Holden Gallery. This exhibition includes a huge mix of work, including painting, installation and tapestry. The artist grew up in Ozyorsk, Russia, ‘a secret closed city, and the birthplace of the Soviet nuclear-weapons programme.’ This lead to her exploring work based on nuclear history and materiality.

Free Entry. Friday 7th February – Friday 27th March.

Tinkering Studio

‘Tinkering Studio: February half term’ at Whitworth Art Gallery

Free workshops must sound like an absolute dream to parents! Something to do to keep the kids entertained during their time off school, plus it’s arty, and it’s fun! Whitworth are hosting a week of workshops. These ‘tinkering’ workshops will aim to combine art and engineering, giving the children a mix of items including nuts, bolts and tools to play with, learn from and create! These workshops may keep some adults happy too.

Free. Monday 17th February – Friday 21st February.

If you have an event coming up – submit the details here.
