Fabric Dyeing and Sewing, 2 Part Workshop: 19/04/21 and 26/04/21

Simone Frater-Russell is a textile artist with a specialism in embroidery in her practice. As a workshop facilitator, she uses a wide range of textile techniques including print, fabric collage and fabric dyeing. In her workshops she tries to engage the participants with textile art methods in ways they may not have considered previously, as well as teaching the basic skills of stitch, print and fabric dyeing. She designs workshops suitable for all age groups and abilities and hope to inspire the participants to experiment and appreciate the versatility of textiles.

Part 1: For the dyeing workshop, Simone will demonstrate the ways in which various cultures from Africa to Japan have employed the method of fabric decoration using stitching or folds in fabric to create a resist pattern during dyeing.

Part 2: Part two of the workshop will be to apply the dyed fabric sample to a cotton tote bag or mounted to create a finished item. This will be a fun and engaging introduction to the possibilities of tie-dye.

This event will take place at:
