If you’re anything like us, with the news that restrictions will be fully lifted by the end of July, you’ll be wanting to get out and experience life again just like it was before Covid hit us last year. That’s why over here at Cotton On MCR we’ve been working hard, planning and setting up some really exciting events and workshops for you all to try out. From Art Fairs to Exhibitions, and loads of different creative workshops; we’ve got plenty to offer you.
Read on to find out what we’ve got in store over the next few months.
Art All Dayer – Saturday 14th August
If you follow us on social media or have signed up to our newsletter, then you’ve probably already heard about our fantastic Art All Dayer. After sadly being postponed over and over again due to the pandemic and then lockdown restrictions, we’ve finally been given the go ahead! Located at Halle St Peters, there will be over 60 tables hosted by artists from all sorts of backgrounds and mediums, showcasing the best of Manchester’s creative arts scene.
We’ve also got a selection of workshops as well for you to take part in as well. Led by Chelsea School of Art Graduate Louise Garman, you can take part in an Introduction to Acrylics class or an Introduction to Marbling class – both of which are held throughout the day so you’ve got plenty of time to take part and still see the art fair itself. More information on booking these workshops can be found here.
Come along to see some of your favourite creatives, find other brilliant artists, and take home some great finds!
The Art All Dayer will be held at Halle St Peters on the Saturday 14th August at 11am – 6pm, with a £1 entry on the door for over 18s.
Carlos Ferg Exhibition – Saturday 14th August
After the success of our last exhibition, ‘In Manchester’ held at Saul Hay Gallery in April, we couldn’t wait to hold our next exhibition and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s with Carlos Ferg! Carlos was the winner of ‘Best Piece’ at the ‘In Manchester’ exhibition, and as a result is now going to be exhibiting in his very own solo show at the Art All Dayer. His recent work is an intense and emotional mix between contemporary and traditional styles. We spoke to Carlos earlier this year as one of our Manc of the Month‘s and he described his style as: “(aiming) to explore whether the patriarchal societies of the past have evolved enough to more egalitarian societies capable of guaranteeing the rights of all individuals equally, regardless of the gender that represents us.” This is a show that you won’t want to miss out on.
You can see Carlos’s work at Halle St Peters on the Saturday 14th August as part of our Art All Dayer. Opening is from 11am – 6pm, and has a £1 entry for over 18s.
Arts and Craft Workshops
If you can’t wait for our Art All Dayer or our Christmas art fair, why not get involved with some of the amazing workshops we have available? Here at Cotton On MCR we pride ourselves on being able to provide you with a diverse range of creative activities. For the remainder of this year, we have a whopping 13 more workshops confirmed, with a further 3 in discussion! We have different classes for you to take part in such as wire sculpture; how to draw; monoprinting; and a 6 week life drawing course. Art All Dayer at Christmas – November
When we launched our applications for a table at the Art All Dayer for August, we were amazed at the amount of creatives who were interested and wanted to be a part of our fair. Well, if you weren’t able to apply in time or missed out on the opportunity, we’ve got another event on the horizon – except this time it’s for Christmas! Later on this year we’ll begin to tell you more about what we’ve got in store for the next Art All Dayer! You can expect to see another huge art fair of amazing, Greater Manchester artists, plus a mix of workshops, but this time, they’ll be Christmas themed! This would be the perfect opportunity create your own Christmas decorations and gifts, and for you to buy unique, handmade, and arty gifts for all of your loved ones this year. Plus, we may have some added Christmas bonuses up our sleeve – watch this space.
The best way to keep up to date with when applications open, and to hear first announcements is to sign up to our newsletter!
Art Talks – TBC
As more and more places are opening up again, we’re also interested in hosting some art talks at various venues around Greater Manchester. We’re looking into gathering both artists and art experts to host these talks to offer valuable advice and tips to get into the arts sector. So whether you’ve just graduated art school, or you’re completely new to the arts, this is a great way to get some ideas and advice to kickstart an art career. Keep your eyes peeled, more info will follow over the coming months!
Head to our workshops page to book on to any of these events.
And don’t forget to keep an eye out for even more workshops coming to Cotton On MCR in the new year!
Our guest blogger is Clare Davidson: ‘Since moving down to Manchester from Scotland for uni I’ve been in love with the ever changing art scene here in the city. I’m currently studying for my BA in Art History and Curation at MMU and plan to continue with lots of post grad work after (if everything goes well)! I have a keen interest in art surrounding women no matter the time period. I also love taking part in different art events and socials so hopefully I’ll be a great fit for Cotton On MCR! https://www.instagram.com/davidsonclare/‘
